PequeFilmes
PEQUEFILMES, Galicia Children's Film Festival has been held every January since 2016 at the Gaiás Museum Center of the Cidade da Cultura in Santiago de Compostela.
It is the reference children’s film festival in Galicia and brings to the youngest public a very wide and careful selection of high quality international works whose access would be especially difficult for this type of viewers, with special attention to the productions of filmmakers and schools from Galicia. The response of this public is always faithful and enthusiastic, and every year they fill up the rooms that are installed within the museum facilities to host this event.
The contents, divided into three age groups (+0, +3, +7) through the Vagalumes, Miñocas and Fanecas sections, are intended not only to facilitate the enjoyment of their always surprising, fascinating and educational content, but also the training of viewers with a critical spirit, capable of discovering and demanding languages, forms, expressions, cultures, sensitivities and alternative views to those usually offered in the nearest commercial channels.
In PequeFilmes, these young spectators are the only jurors, who with their votes and evaluations award the prizes that the festival awards each year.
Along with the competitive sections, the festival is completed with a varied and constantly moving program, articulated around national cinematographies, retrospectives of filmmakers, thematic axes and collaborations with other festivals, organizations, groups and institutions.
Every year, PequeFilmes also organizes different Obradoiros (workshops), where hundreds of boys and girls participate in educational activities related to cinema, animation and audiovisual language.
Due to the health restrictions that we are experiencing in 2021, PequeFilmes has been forced to change this format in this edition, and presents a dual modality, in which the programming of short films has been reduced and is offered on-site for a reduced capacity in the Auditorium of the Cidade da Cultura of Santiago de Compostela, and at the same time, online through tv.festhome.com.
For this reason, we have decided to cancel the contest in this edition. These short films have been selected by invitation and are part of a generic sample section, so sections are not differentiated, nor are prizes awarded. The short films selected in this edition will receive in exchange the payment of a fee for their projection and broadcast.
Both the works registered and those selected to participate in the 2021 edition will be considered automatically registered for the 2022 edition, when we hope to be able to develop the festival again in better conditions, and will be able to choose to be selected for the competitions of the next edition and qualify for their prizes.
